Great Borne & Starling Dodd

Into the Western Fells we go, starting in the wonderful Ennerdale valley which has gone though many changes in recent years, bringing environmental benefit to this area.

Two more Wainwrights today under the attentive guidance of Graham Uney, author of Walking the Wainwrights.

Similar to our home valley, Ennerdale has no though road and therefore is quieter and more tranquil than other areas of Lakeland. High above the valley, the connecting ridge between these two fells is rolling and has wonderful views. When I did these two a few years ago, I didn’t see another person until I was nearly back at the car, though I did see lots of wildlife. On the return leg, before you reach the lake, be sure to take time to watch the River Liza with its crystal clear waters tumbling by.

11.6km, 700m of height gain.
