Today we climb the highest mountain in England outside the Lake District, it seems little known that this is the 11th highest mountain in England (though some other lists on the internet place it 5th for some unknown reason!). It is definitely the highest point in the Pennines which run from Northumberland to the Peak District. The Pennines have a very different feel to the Lakes owing in part to their geology and in part to their relative popularity. Climbing from pastures below to stand on the spine of England we take our time to check out the views all around.
If time and legs allow we will pay a visit to Greg’s Hut, a remote mountain bothy steeped in history.
15.5km (if we go to Greg’s hut too) 800m assent, grassy and stony tracks.
£45pp . Good dogs welcome
