The Calf via Cautley Spout

Remember Remember the fifth of November, the day we all went for a fabulous walk in the Howgills?

Cautley Spout is England’s highest waterfall with a drop of around 200m, we will work our way up the side on a good path that is very steep towards the top, we will take this part of the walk at a very gentle pace and the rest of the day will feel much easier.

You will probably have seen the Howgills from the M6 as you pass through the Tebay gorge, but you might never have thought to visit, or known how. The Howgills have a little bit of an identity crisis, these fabulous hills are in the county of Cumbria but also after its recent expansion, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Quieter than both the Lake District and the more well known areas of the Dales this is a fabulous place to explore. Rolling grassy hills, solitude, a stunning water fall all packed into this relatively compact day out. The Calf is the highest point in the Howgills which if we get good views will give you an idea of how much more the is to explore in this area.

Part of the Autumn series, this is a walk suitable for all with a little determination and a sense of adventure.

9km, 720m height gain, grassy paths, very steep near the start (we will go slow!).
