Rolling hills within a big mountain landscape, these two Wainwrights make a lovely outing. With a steep start and finish - if you are new to Team Tortoise; don’t worry, steep means slow! See some of the best views of the Haweswater valley, and glimpses into the even quieter valleys beyond. This circuit is a wonderful introduction to the joys of hill walking, hiking, ambling, rambling or whatever you might like to call it. We will wander past abandoned buildings and consider who might have used these in times gone by, learn about the corpse road and the challenges faced by its users of old. As we skirt around a bog of doom (no need for any of that!) we will explore the wildlife that this area has to offer.
Once we have gained higher ground things are more undulating and we have options from here to complete our circuit.
Level 1, suitable for all.
7.5km, 535m height gain, mainly grassy paths with a little section of rockier path.
Roadside parking, no facilities. Good dogs on leads welcome.
